Cooking & Creating Remedies With Medicinal Herbs for City Folk & Herbal Apprentices

Humankind evolved having a symbiotic relationship with plants and their medicinal properties. Ancient gatherers gained knowledge (and foresight) about healing their bodies with what was wildcrafted from the fields around them. At the beginning of the 21st century, we’re rediscovering our herbal roots. “Mothercrafting” herbs is about the leaves, twigs, bark, berries, seeds, flowers, and roots of traditional medicine and how they’re ready to be cooked and used in the city too.
This three-hour introductory workshop will cover terminology, body systems and 17 (or more) herbs for your cupboard. Attendees will understand how to cook with medicinal herbs in their favorite dishes, when to choose capsules or tinctures or teas, and the how-to of preparation and dosages. Case studies will be discussed, and there will be ample time for questions.
Note: Bring a notebook. Also tastings of foods will be offered (there will be no dairy or wheat).
While practicing as a medicinal herbalist for the past 40 years, Marguerite Dunne has earned a double master’s degree in education, certification in herbology, and been a Doctor of Naturopathy candidate. An adjunct instructor of biology for 12 years in medicinal herbs and nutrition at Marist College, she has given historic herb lectures, written articles, made media appearances, owned a health food store, been a regional manager for three of the major supplement brands, and had her own radio show, “The Urban Herbalist.” urbanherbalistnyc.com
